Some Facts about Me
Because you, my imaginary reader just CANNOT get enough info about ME, here goes:
·         I am 42 years old
·         I am looking forward to going home
·         I am excited and hopeful for the future
·         I am addicted to sweets
·         I hate being fat
·         The longer I stay on midnights the uglier and fatter I am becoming
·         Of all the jobs I’ve had (and hated) County is my favorite (least hated)
·         While I feel I can do so much more I am proud that I have started to do volunteer work for the church
·         I have won several millions of dollars on “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” (unfortunately the video game and not the game show)
·         In H.S. I played a pretty mean 3rd base and played in Wrigley Field for the city semis (we lost our only game of the season that day 5-0.  I still think those “kids” playing for Simeon were like 22 year olds.  Another reason to hate Wrigley)
·         I am more content than I ever thought I would be
·         My second toe is as long as my big toe
·         I love to travel
·         I love to play golf
·         I love being on vacation (wow total original here, hardly no one likes to be off of work)
·         I love to ride motorcycles
·         I would love to ride my motorcycle to go play golf while traveling on vacation
Oh my god I am just a fascinating man!  I’m sure it’s only a matter of time until this blog goes worldwide.  Oh yeah, the world according to Bigeck.  I think I’m going to give Oprah a run for her money as far as being one of the most influential people.  Maybe President, I should start by trying to contact Will Smith again.  I can start my political career as his running mate.  If you missed it before, I think we elected the wrong black man with funny little ears and a goofy white guy for his running mate.

Officer Friendly Rides Again

This past Sunday was my first day volunteering for my Church’s “Emergency Response Team”.  Hilarious, I’m on E.R.T. (inside jail guard joke – that’s the name of our elite fighting force).  Part of my reason for joining (other than serving the Church of course) was to meet new people and maybe make some new friends along the way.  Sue and I have been serving communion for some time now, but that is a very silent task and doesn’t lend itself to socializing.
I’ve already come to realize since emergencies will be few and far between the ERT team is really a bunch of guys to first and foremost greet the congregation warmly, and then secondly be there in case something out of the ordinary occurs.
Ironically, the theme of Church on Sunday was “Breaking up with Insecurity”.   I could not have felt anymore like the zit faced 20 year old kid that as a security guard was paid to pretend to like people and be friendly to them,
It’s sad when I think how depressed I was at how much of an underachiever I felt like.  I wasted so many years just feeling worthless and not doing anything about it.
It took sometime but I did finally shake of the willies.  I realized this is not my job.  I’m volunteering, I told myself to relax and be myself.
Well the two hours passed by relatively uneventfully, the highlight being me dropping the earpiece of the radio into the toilet (luckily freshly flushed).  When I told the wife about the toilet incident she said that I was no 007.  I told her yeah I guess I’m more the 003 and a third type agent.

Pensions, the Public Sector, and the Piss Boy

A few of my law enforcement friends on SelfCenteredEgotisticalNarcissistBook, I mean Facebook left status updates saying (I’m paraphrasing): I took a job knowing I’d never get rich, if I were to get a bonus it would lead to an investigation, I’ve worked off hours and missed important family occasions and holidays.  I’m expected to lay down my life for this job, my life expectancy is shorter than most because of the stress associated with my job, yet I’m not deserving of a pension or health benefits.
The follow up comments were mostly supportive, but there was one that I found very interesting.  It was a smart a$$ comment about how “he forgot to mention that he is off every other week”.  A reference to the amount of furlough time he gets as a Chicago Police Officer.
That comment got me to thinking about the growing public dissention over the benefits being received by those serving the community.
I think a good example of the people turning on the public sector is a hundred year old man named Ryan rotting in prison.  A lot of people say – “He’s corrupt, he got what he deserved!”  But really politicians have been making shady deals since they were wearing robes and urinating publicly in buckets carried around by the “Piss Boy” (that bit history provided by Mr. Mel Brooks).  It’s just until recently that the people have decided to put their foot down.
The same holds true for the police.  While having a badge does still have some privileges the perks are steadily dwindling.
Gone are the days when a police officer or peace officer can “tune up” an individual whether there is reason or not.  Gone are the days when a police officer can get away with killing someone while driving drunk (rightfully so of course, but damn we should still be able to beat up people that deserve a good beat down).
Hell, I even recall a woman complaining about a police officer being parked illegally while he was eating lunch in a restaurant, and that officer being reprimanded.  What kind of a world do we live in where a police officer can’t park anydamnwhere he pleases?  I’ll tell you what kind – a world where police and other public servant pensions and benefits will be on a more even playing field as those in the private sector.  The people’s cries and grumblings are getting louder and soon or later there will be a change.
Like it or not, it’s coming because something has got to give.  Look at it this way.  Way back when father knew best and mother stayed in the kitchen and just smiled and made pot roast what was the life expectancy?  Early 60’s?  Pensions were around for the minority that outlived their working years.  Now with life expectancy at 80-something, 90-something where are all these added resources supposed to come from?  They are not coming from anywhere.  The well is running dry.  There needs to be a drastic change in the system.  What change is needed?  I won’t even pretend to know that answer.  I do know however that until a permanent answer is found, the answer until then is SAVINGS!!!
Are you investing in a vehicle outside of your employment’s pension program?  If not you better have understanding kids – cuz you are moving in with them.

From Benign to...

Benign – Thank God!
For the longest time, I couldn’t get malignant and benign straight.  They both sound so ugly.
I think the term benign should be changed.  It should bring to mind the same feelings as butterflies and rainbows.  I can almost hear the doctor now:
“Mrs. Buttercup, I’m happy to report that the results of your tests were Bubblicious.”

Photo of something that makes me happy

How ironic that its time for this post seeing as how February is over.  What an annoying month.  28 days, but sometimes 29.  Its awkward to say - Feb Roo air ee.  Was that first "r" always in there?  I thought it was Febuary until like 3 years ago.  I think I started to hate FebRuary even more after that discovery.

But I digress...

There it is.  Baseball baby.  Bring it on.
